Kingswood is the kind of neighbourhood you find and never want to leave.

The Kingswood neighbourhood is tucked away on the Hammonds Plans Road, a genteel, rambling answer to the inner suburbs. It’s a new development, laid in an organic grid surrounding a checkerboard of lakes.

About Kingswood

To the south is the new Blue Mountain-Birch Cove Lakes Wilderness, and that untamed woodland maintains a strong presence here. It’s a beautiful slice of the province, straddling Halifax and Bedford, and the modern answer to the country estate.

As you’d expect from that description, both the lots and the homes here are generously sized, usually with toolsheds, garages, and other outbuildings. These are executive homes, trimmed and finished to a high standard with high-quality materials. Many boast swimming pools and lake frontage, and virtually all the lots are wooded, so privacy is not an issue.

The streets are quiet — nearly deserted on weekdays — with wide shoulders for pedestrians.  Every few streets, you’ll find an entrance to the wilderness area, with well-maintained, well-marked paths. It’s an ideal setting for kids, joggers, and dog-walkers, but don’t be surprised if you come across native wildlife. As you’d expect in an area so rich in lakes, shallow streams and creeks are everywhere, and more than twenty species of native birds flit through the canopy.

Hammonds Plains Road itself is a bit of a wild west, offering experiences unavailable anywhere else in HRM. Hatfield Farms will fulfill your kids’ (or your) cowboy dreams, while the nearby Glen Arbour is one of eastern Canada’s most challenging golf courses — no membership required.  Bloom Greenhouses and Farmer Clems, side by each, offer an excellent variety of native an exotics for the neighbourhood’s sprawling acreage. And, if you’re feeling indulgent, Atlantic Playland is just minutes away, with its waterslide, carousels, fairway games, and even a haunted house.

Kingswood has its own elementary school (with 10 French immersion classrooms), and its easy access to the Hammonds Plains Road means that Bedford, Halifax, and Tantallon are all within easy commuting distance. But residents need not venture even that far for the essentials: a small plaza at one of the neighbourhood’s entrances houses a pharmacy, two pizza parlours, a gas station, and a medical clinic — not to mention Kingswood  Market, a small-but-mighty independent grocer and butcher shop.

Across from the other neighbourhood entrance, you’ll find Edible Matters, with its luscious, down-to-earth menu and frequent community events, plus a choice pub for locals.

Kingswood is the kind of neighbourhood you find and never want to leave. Surrounded by so much space and natural beauty, it’s easy to believe that the possibilities are endless. But if the fates do sweep you onwards, you’ll have the confidence of knowing that homes in this neighbourhood are excellent investments — they retain value better than any other neighbourhood of the peninsula.

If you’re looking for a long-term family home, an investment property, or your own private slice of heaven, let Century 21 Trident Realty show you the Kingswood we’re passionate about.
